Famous Food in Siem Reap

It all started with one woman’s passion and respect for traditional cooking and eventually grew into something more.

Perk Sophal started her cooking career in the kitchen of her family’s house. At night, they would serve food to Siem Reap locals and aid workers from the UN, Medecin Sans Frontieres (MSF), and the Red Cross.

Everyone loved the food and someone suggested making things official, leading Sophal to open her very own Khmer Kitchen’s doors in 1999 and then Suon Damnak on Chocolate Lane in 2024!

Real Khmer Cuisine Meets International Flavors

Khmer Kitchen quickly made a name for itself, becoming known as the spot to get real Khmer cuisine fast. In just the first year, the family attracted thousands of hungry eaters into the small 20 seater restaurant.

Travelers to Siem Reap loved the traditional Cambodian Food, and so did the locals. They really appreciated the hard work and efforts the small family put into the restaurant exposing Khmer cuisine in Siem Reap to the world.

Seemingly overnight, their efforts paid off. A visit from the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger put Khmer Kitchen on the map.

Today, Sophal and her husband Channa run the famous restaurant serving traditional Khmer cuisine in Siem Reap for everyone.

“Everybody in Siem Reap knows this restaurant”

"While some restaurants have compromised their style to cater tourists' tastebuds, the khmer Kitchen Restaurant still cook their stuff the authentic way. Location was excellent.. right in the city centre and within walking distance to Pub Street. Must try the Cambodian BBQ and Amok. If you don't want to line up for too long, be there early. "

“Absolutely delicious”

"This corner restaurant provides a great spot for people watching. The service is exceptional, free wifi, beer is $1 and the food...... oh the food!

Food is fresh, full of flavour and so well cooked. Good size portions and reasonable prices. We placed our order and the food quickly followed.

Thoroughly recommend this little gem of a kitchen in the bustle of the night market"

"Delicious, large portions"

"We went twice during our time in Siem Reap, both times had fantastic service and food. The restaurant is huge but the staff clearly all communicate effectively and are very attentive. At night they have a BBQ out on the corner and offer a wide selection of meats in a Khmer marinade. Portions are very big though, especially the amok and curries, so don’t order too much!"
